Have you ever heard about that gigantic road that the Incas used to travel on to communicate? Back then, there were no trains, motorcycles, cars, or airplanes. No, they walked it.

And if you also want to walk it, but you think you don't have time, this is your best opportunity. The 2 Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is short, but it has everything you need. It has everything just right for those travelers who want to experience the magic of walking through the same places that the Incas walked, where they will also discover several ancient archaeological sites.

And to top it all off, you will reach Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). All this in just two unforgettable days.

The journey begins at kilometer 104, from where we start the hike through forests and beautiful waterfalls to reach Wiñay Wayna, one of the most beautiful sites of the entire Inca Trail. We rest for a while and then continue to Inti Punku, where you will see for the first time the citadel of Machu Picchu, from the top.

Afterwards, we descend to Aguas Calientes for the night, and the next day, you will have time to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace. You can even climb Huayna Picchu if you book in advance.

So, whether it's your first time in Peru or you've been here before, this Inca Trail 2 Day Trek is a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and connection with nature. It is less physically demanding than the 4-day trail, but that doesn't matter. What it does ask for is the same heart.

This is a trip that will show you that you don't need many days to live an experience that will change the way you see history, Machu Picchu... and your own memories.

Why choose the Inca Trail 2 days 1 night?

Not everyone has four or five days to spare—but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on one of the world’s most iconic treks. The Inca Trail 2 days 1 night is the perfect alternative for travelers with tight schedules who still want to experience the magic of walking an ancient path to Machu Picchu.

In just two days, you'll hike through breathtaking Andean landscapes, explore well-preserved Inca ruins, and arrive at the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku)—all without missing the depth, beauty, and meaning that make this route so unforgettable.

A direct path to Inca heritage and natural beauty

This Inca Trail 2 day trek may be short, but it’s rich in everything that matters. Starting at KM 104, you’ll pass waterfalls, lush cloud forest, and the spectacular archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna, a place many hikers call more beautiful than Machu Picchu itself.

Along the way, your guide will share stories of Inca rituals, engineering, and sacred geography, transforming each step into a journey through time. It’s a rare chance to connect with Peru’s cultural legacy while being surrounded by natural beauty that stuns at every turn.

What makes this Inca Trail 2 day trek so unforgettable?

There’s something about arriving at Machu Picchu on foot that makes the experience more meaningful. Instead of entering through the main gate like most visitors, you’ll approach from above, through the Sun Gate, just as the Incas once did.

That moment, when you see the citadel appear between the mountains, bathed in golden light, is something no train or bus can ever replace.

If you’re looking for a short but powerful adventure—one that blends challenge, history, and raw beauty—the 2 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is exactly what you’ve been searching for.

Itinerary

Day 1From Cusco to KM 104, Wiñay Wayna and the Sun Gate

Your journey begins early in the morning with a hotel pickup and transfer to the train station. After a scenic ride along the Urubamba River, you’ll disembark at KM 104—the starting point of your Inca Trail 2-day trek.

From here, the adventure truly begins. A gentle but steady uphill path leads you through lush landscapes and past beautiful waterfalls. After approximately 3 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Wiñay Wayna, an extraordinary Inca site built into the mountainside, where you’ll stop to rest and have lunch.

The trail continues for about 2 more hours until you arrive at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the original ceremonial entrance to Machu Picchu. You’ll catch your first glimpse of the citadel from above—a magical preview of what awaits the next day. As the light fades, you’ll descend to Aguas Calientes, where a cozy night at a local hostel and a well-earned dinner await.

Day 2Sunrise at Machu Picchu and return to Cusco

+

After an early breakfast, it’s time to head to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Whether you choose to hike up or take the bus (optional), the reward is the same: the gates open, and one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of modern times appears before you.

Your guide will lead a two-hour tour through the citadel’s most important temples, plazas, and ceremonial sites, offering insights into its architecture, mysteries, and spiritual significance. After the tour, you’ll have time to explore on your own, take photos, or even climb Huayna Picchu if you’ve secured a permit.

Later, you’ll head back down to Aguas Calientes to catch the train and bus back to Cusco, with your heart (and camera) full of memories.
