Discover the Peruvian Amazon on a four-day journey from Puerto Maldonado. This Tambopata Tour 4 Days 3 Nights combines rainforest trails, Lake Sandoval, night river exploration, canopy bridges, wildlife observation and meaningful encounters with the natural world.

A Complete Tambopata Rainforest Tour Experience

A Tambopata Tour 4 Days 3 Nights gives you time to experience the Amazon beyond a quick visit. From the moment you arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the city gradually disappears behind you and the rainforest begins to set the pace of the journey.

You will stay near the jungle, walk through forest trails, navigate Amazonian waterways and discover the wildlife, plants and landscapes that make this region one of Peru’s most unforgettable destinations.

This experience is designed for travelers who want a balanced Amazon adventure: active enough to feel immersed in the rainforest, yet paced to let you enjoy the destination without rushing from one activity to another.

Why Visit Tambopata? What Makes It So Special?

Tambopata is one of the most biodiverse areas of the Peruvian Amazon. Its rivers, lakes, palm forests and jungle trails create habitats for birds, primates, reptiles, aquatic species and many other forms of wildlife.

During this Tambopata rainforest tour, every activity reveals a different side of the forest. One moment you may be walking beneath dense vegetation; later, you may be observing the calm surface of a lake, crossing canopy bridges above the trees or listening to the sounds of the jungle after dark.

Wildlife is never guaranteed, because this is a natural environment, not a zoo. However, the experience is built around the places and times where the Amazon can be appreciated with respect and patience.

Why Choose the Tambopata Tour 4 Days 3 Nights?

Lake Sandoval and rainforest wildlife

Visit Lake Sandoval, one of the most recognized natural areas in Tambopata. The route combines rainforest walking, river navigation and the opportunity to observe birds, monkeys, reptiles and other species that inhabit the lake and surrounding forest.

A different Amazon every day

This program does not repeat the same type of activity. It brings together trail exploration, river journeys, a canopy experience, night walks, a nearby cocha and a botanical garden visit, creating a more complete view of the rainforest.

Adventure above the rainforest canopy

The canopy activity adds a more adventurous perspective to the tour. Climb a tower, enjoy elevated views over the forest and cross hanging bridges surrounded by the sounds and scale of the Amazon.

Learn from the plants of the forest

The botanical garden visit introduces you to plants such as cacao, copoazú, Brazil nut trees and palms. It is an opportunity to understand that the Amazon is not only a landscape to admire, but also a living environment that supports communities and biodiversity.

Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado

Your Tambopata Tour 4 Days 3 Nights begins with airport pickup in Puerto Maldonado. From there, you will travel to your rainforest accommodation, located approximately 30 minutes from the city.

After settling into your cabin or room and enjoying lunch, you will begin your first rainforest activity: a guided walk through the trail system surrounding the lodge. This is an introduction to the Amazon environment, where you can learn about local plants and keep an eye out for birds, monkeys and other wildlife.

Later in the evening, you will take part in a night river outing. As daylight fades, the river becomes a completely different environment. During the boat ride, you may look for nocturnal birds, caimans, capybaras and other species that become more active after dark.

The day ends with dinner and time to rest in the rainforest.

Day 2Sandoval lake - Hidden Jungle

+

After breakfast, the day begins with one of the highlights of the program: a visit to Lake Sandoval in the Tambopata National Reserve.

This activity lasts approximately four to five hours and combines forest exploration with time around one of the region’s most iconic oxbow lakes. Along the route, you may observe macaws, parrots, parakeets, primates, reptiles and wetland birds such as herons and ibis.

After returning for lunch, the afternoon continues with the canopy experience. You will travel by boat toward the activity area, climb a tower approximately 45 meters high and cross hanging bridges suspended above the rainforest floor.

Later, take part in the “Hidden Jungle” experience: a guided night walk focused on the sounds and smaller inhabitants of the Amazon. Look closely for insects, amphibians and reptiles while discovering how different the forest feels after sunset.

Day 3Cocha, Mammal Clay Lick and Botanical Garden

+

Begin the day with breakfast before visiting a nearby cocha, a small rainforest lagoon with a micro-ecosystem distinct from the surrounding trails and rivers.

This area is ideal for quiet wildlife observation. Depending on natural conditions, travelers may spot birds such as the hoatzin, aquatic turtles and other species associated with wetland environments.

The next activity is a visit to a mammal clay lick, an area of natural mineral-rich soil that may attract wildlife. This part of the experience is about patience, observation and understanding the ecological role of the rainforest rather than expecting guaranteed animal encounters.

After lunch, continue to the botanical garden. Here, you will learn about plants that are important to the region, including cacao, copoazú, Brazil nut trees and different palms. It is a thoughtful ending to the final full day of your Amazon experience.

Day 4Check-Out and Onward Journey
